THE conflicting socio-political perceptions that are part of this island's make-up have been emphasised this major centenary year to the extent that we can't even agree on how to name it - witness the embarrassment of President Higgins declining to attend the Armagh service "marking the partition of Ireland and the formation of Northern Ireland”. Did this definition imply "politicisation"? It remains a matter of opinion, but given the debacle caused by Brexit and the protocol, socio-political discord lies very close to the surface.

Summer 2021

OBLIGED by the pandemic to conduct this year’s Colloquium online, we were able to draw in contributors from three continents to ponder how we can serve the world in interreligious solidarity, as per the World Council of Churches’ document of the same name. We titled the event “Who is my Neighbour?”, the parable of the Good Samaritan being key to the WCC’s text.

THE PANDEMIC is still with us, affecting our everyday lives more than we could have imagined a year ago - and its effect on our worship is likely to continue indefinitely. Our first three articles reflect on current and future developments, styles and possibilities, some cautious, some adventurous - all thoughtful. Two C of I clergy, Stephen Farrell and Christopher West, consider how parish worship has adjusted and may continue to change while Soline Humbert looks at a radical online experiment in eucharistic worship. Clearly there is further work to be done in this area in all traditions.
