Behold the Spirit – a renewed Pentecost?
MY BRIEF for today was to speak from my own personal experience of the Holy Spirit, not from the head but from my heart. I’m not an expert on this topic; I’m still a pilgrim on a journey!
In 1982, when I was 19, having given my life to Jesus at the age of 11, I was on the team at a Scripture Union camp in Kinsale. I believe that even my being there had come about by the Holy Spirit as I’d had a strong feeling that I should contact the leader of the camp at the last minute to offer my services on the team. My letter arrived just as they were praying together for someone who would bring the teenagers on the train from Dublin to Cork - and there I was! That was the first time I was aware of being the answer to someone’s prayers. One evening on that camp we had a bonfi re and as all the young people went back to their tents for the night, I was rooted to the bench as if there was a hand on my shoulder holding me down. From the fi re, I felt I heard the voice of God telling me that there was more to being a Christian than I knew and he wanted to give me the Holy Spirit. That was a life-changing moment for me and began a journey that continues to this day.
