DISCUSSIONS about ‘The Body of Christ’ are steeped in the language of embodiment. The difficult realities of human embodiment have been brought home to us in the past year - in the Church, in news stories, and our personal experience of suffering and loss. To love our neighbours as ourselves, we have recently had to let go of the immediacy of many of our relationships. We have been starved of the beauty and reassurance of touch, of being able to embrace distressed loved ones. It is impossible to overestimate the sense of grief that presently pervades the body of Christ.
